I ate at Ceiba for the first time today, going for lunch with a friend, and thought it worth reporting that one of the dishes I had was absolutely stellar! It was the duck confit empanadas, an appetizer on the lunch menu, that was so substantial that I was glad I ordered it as a main course (I found the apps far more appealing than the mains, and so ordered a selection of apps for my meal). There were around seven empanadas in the order, served very crispy and with a dipping sauce on the side. Their flavor was delectable, very richly spiced with a hefty portion of duck in each, along with some raisiny things and perhaps corn. Excellent, especially for $9.
The other dishes we ordered were on the whole good, but not as outstanding as the empanadas. Altogether we had the two ceviches on offer (one with shrimp, the other with grouper; the latter was better in my opinion, and more ceviche-y), a bowl of the conch chowder (very good, but the add-on spicy sherry made it too spicy), and the taco special, which my friend did not think much of.
