let's give ourselves some good karma for a little while.
When I'm clearly indecisive between two menu items and the waitperson perceives my indecision, drops a hint that they know what they're talking about, and then suggests one of the two, giving a sound culinary reason (i.e. not "people like this a lot")
When I'm in a country specific restaurant who's cuisine I'm unfamiliar with, and I put myself at the mercy of the waitstaff/kitchen, and they in turn have enough faith in me as an eater to give me the good stuff.
and I'm always appreciative of any waiter or waitress who can make me laugh without trying to be a comedian.
Okay and I have to add this, my one pet peeve is waitstaff who feel the need to congratulate me on my choice (this happens to me every year around the copper river salmon run, when I seek out restaurants that will serve it).
