Europane Bakery - Pasadena

rollin'jagaimo | Oct 2, 200406:59 PM

Though I haven't had the opportunity to try the sandwiches at Europane, I always seem to find myself passing by the bakery in the morning, which essentially means trying out all their sweet pastries and breads.

Today, I had this fantastic item for the first time.... don't remember the name. It was big, round, and flat with blueberries dotting the top, sprinkled with some sugar. The middle part is nice and soft, but the highlight of this pastry was the custard; I don't know how they managed to bake this, but the custard inside the bread had spread to the edges, and whenver you took a bite, it was a nice mouthful of not-too-sweet custard.

Also had the chocolate brioche. A healthy dose of chocolate, though I could have probably done without the drizzle of icing on top.

One qualm I have about this bakery is that I wish all the items were identified with a little sign or something. I feel a bit guilty asking the person behind the counter 20 questions of "What's that?" when all the morning regulars are lining up behind me, waiting for their coffee.
