Okay, I've been to Mekala's, Chao Pra Ya, and Ring of Fire in Eugene. Didn't think Mekala's was anything special. Chao Pra Ya is my current fav. The intensity of flavors is nice and the prices are fair. Ring of Fire is like Portland's Typhoon in that the flavors can be subtler and the ingredients more expensive and they'll incorporate fusion elements. The prices are high, too. But it's a nice place. Their yellow curry with apples and their mussaman are excellent. And their dessert with the fried bananas, honey, and really good coconunt ice cream is something I crave.
A friend today just tried the place linked below, Aiyara, today and liked it. I had noticed it last time I was down and since he works near Gateway, he went there for lunch. He said it was pretty good. The red curry he had was simpler than most places (ie, didn't have a lot of veggies) and thicker. Sounds like Thai Little Home up here. He said the lady was very nice and reminded him of a nice mom. It's the first place in Eugene/Springfield where I've seen kao soi on the menu. They do specials with green or red curry over noodles, too.
