eugene report day one

First time in Eugene, and we started our visit with stops at two restaurants. For lunch we went to Cafe Xenon. It was terrific (except I think our waiter was stoned, but that only added to the charm, and, after all, this is Eugene) Started with a pate of pheasant, duck and pork. Fabulous. Split a caesar salad that had a wonderful taste of anchovies, although none were visually obvious. Waiter forgot to bring us the cucmber gazpacho, but maybe next time. Split an order of choucroute. The house made boudin blanc was incredible, sauerkraut was terrific as well. the smoked pork loin was dry, and i really didnt care for the duck confit. but all in all, the meal was great.
had three appetizers last night at Marche. Sat on the patio, which was very pleasant. ordered mussels, shrimp on polenta, and crab cakes. the mussels and shrimp were lukewarm, although the polenta tasted great. crabcakes were good. tonight they are doing a provence tasting menu for 35 dollars that looks like a good deal. hope they heat the food up.
