Esparza's: Not So Good Anymore

Sir Loins | Apr 13, 2004 06:07 PM

For nearly 7 years, my partner and I have been a big fan of this place's flavorful, down home Tex Mex cooking. I could count on the flavors being rich and true to the dish, the quality of the meat and fish being fresh, and the meal itself being well-prepared. A culmination of things are changing my mind about Esparza's.

Most importantly, our last three meals there have been mediocre at best. Gluey, flavorless cheese covers everything, the flavors are bland, the fish noticeably *not* fresh, the meat dry and overcooked and lacking in subtle, smoky flavor. As big fans of the specials board, we've tried and shared just about all of it over the years. Lately, there ain't been much special about it.

We grew annoyed at the constant increases in menu prices, which seem to happen every other month, but put up with it because it was worth it. We put up with the considerable weakening of the formerly potent but tasty and well-made margaritas. Not anymore. At my last meal there, I realized that I wasn't going to crave this food again. Esparza's is living off of a lost reputation these days.
