Ernesto's in White Plains not trendy but tasty...

I'd like to report on a recent couple of visits I made to Ernesto's Italian Ristorante in White Plains...Though it has been on W. Post Road here for 17 years and thriving, it often gets lost in the tumult between all the 'trendy' restaurants of the moment that are opening in the city...rather than follow the pack, owner Ernesto has opted apparently to stay with the Italian-American menu many of us would be familiar with...and the good news is that it is packed with flavorful versions of homestyle classics...Recent meals with friends have included: a lovely Cold Seafood Salad; fresh tasting Hot Antipasto Platter (the clams oreganata and eggplant rollatini are a delight); Ziti San Martino, a hearty bowl of small ziti with sweet sausage and broccoli in a wonderful marinara sauce; a fine version of Chicken Scarpariello, served here off the bone; a special Veal Scallopine that was sauteed with peas, champignon mushrooms and topped with melted mozzarella in white wine sauce; and a classic Filet of Sole Francese that could not have been better...his pizza emporium next door bustles daily and is also quite good...sometimes I have them bring me a slice as a starter in the more formal dining room. I'll be back...It's nice to have a 'safe haven' to pop into on occasion...you know what I mean?
