Erico's (U Street)

Martin | Jan 31, 2003 09:47 AM

Last weekend I was at a small West African cafe called Erico's. I struck up a conversation with the chef, Emeka, and he was kind enough to offer me a sample of one his dishes, Yassa. As described on the menu, Yassa is chicken that has been marinated and cooked in a vinegar, lemon, and mustard sauce, and it came with rice and a firey pepper sauce served over tomatos. A simple dish with bold flavors.

Also listed on the short menu:

Ndolle - Greens cooked in a peanut sauce with dried crayfish, garlic, ginger with choice of beef or shrimp.

Jollof Rice with Fish - Rice cooked in a spicy tomato sauce with fish

Jollofed Black-eyed Peas - Served with fried plantains and jasmine rice.

1334 U Street, NW
