Not a name you hear a lot of, at least around here so I felt compelled to write. Four of us had the pleasure of dining at The Epic in the Royal York Hotel this past weekend and we were pleasantly surprised to say the least.
We had a seven course tasting menu with matching wines. It was fantastic!! The room itself is a little tired but the creativity of the team is stellar. For those looking for a foie gras treat - this is the place. Imagine seared on truffled french toast - melt in your mouth goodness. Honestly we were blown away from that alone and it didn't stop. Artic char tartare, braised short rib, white fish, we were so full we had to ask them to hold the cheese plate.
The desert was frangipane tart with this incredible brown butter gelato. The gelato was sinfully delicious - perfect texture and flavours. A dish I won't soon forget.
I'm sorry I can't provide pricing as it was a gift. The service was impeccible. Friendly but not pretentious. Do yourself a favour and check it out. They have a very passionate and creative team.
