In addition to my previous post, I add this: The way we were treated in Epernay, as opposed to the Italian BYO restaurant in Dumont...Il Mulino.
Tonight, my husband was so looking forward to their steak. They ran out. They offered to substitute one of their specials, the prime rib, at the same price. My husband instead ordered a shellfish dish he loves as well.
No fuss/no muss. But...after dinner, we were offered free desserts...not because anything was cooked wrong, but just because my husband may have been disappointed in not getting his steak. We politely thanked the waiter and assured him there was no need. Back to the kitchen he went. Back out he came, on a mission: How about free after dinner drinks on the house? No, no, we replied, we were fine with finishing up our wine.
Now a fruit plate came out...on the house. Now, THIS is the way to run a restaurant!
