Ok, I assume I'm going to lose all my credibility with this report. Finally went over to sripraphai and I liked it! But I have to say it was nowhere near as good as the 3 good meals I had at Ubol's Kitchen (I'm not counting the one downright awful visit).
Perhaps I got the wrong stuff. I went with my 4 year old daughter, so I got here a mild, crispy noodles with a brown gravy (w/chicken and shrimp). She absolutely loved it....but I couldn't appreciate the corn starchy, chinese style brown sauce at all. I found it downright distasteful -- but maybe that's just my unseasoned tastebuds.
I got the jungle curry and it was good, not amazing. the large ools of oil turned me off a bit...but I thought it was good FYI, I had no interest in trying "Thai Spicy."
The banana sticky rice was yummy.
Could it be that my 4 year old has tastes more in line with most chowhounds on this site!?!
Looking forward to a 2nd try...I'm sure I'll see the light. I shoud have ordered a masaman or a green curry (my fave thai dishes). It could be that I'm just not a jungle curry guy.
