My encounter with The Counter

LesThePress | Dec 15, 2003 05:17 PM

I finally tried The Counter today.

Basically it was okay, but not for the price.

First, I went early, was there at 11:35am, no problem parking, no line, lots of seating.

While the cashier had some problems entering my burger the way I wanted it (took about 5 minutes), the food came fairly fast. The fries arrived a few minutes before the burger. The fries were a little greasy and not done to my satisfation (soft, not crispy).

My main compaint: I ordered the burger medium rare, it was very medium to almost medium well (no or barely any pink in the middle). This ruined it for me, a lot.

My second objection was I sat on the Ocean Park side. For some reason there seemed to be a lot of people walking by smoking, and since it's just screened, I kept smelling smoke. Also, since there is construction going on in the area, when there was no smoke there was a strong odor of carbon monoxide (exaust from big trucks).

All in all, the meat was good, very stong beef smell and taste.

I don't feel it was worth $10.50 for one burger, fries, and a drink. Certainly not worth fighting for a parking space and standing in a long line.

Next I'm going to Houstons to try the BBQ burger.
