Emergency Dessert From the Pantry

outRIAAge | Oct 27, 201602:40 PM     3

I've been making this so long that I have no idea if it's my recipe or not. If you're lucky, you'll have a long, thin serving dish, but if not, just ad lib with individual ramekins or build it in a circle on a serving plate.

It's one of those simple synergistic recipes where diners have trouble identifying the ingredients. The combination of booze, sugar, and cream guarantee no leftovers and are also coma-inducing, which is a definite plus at any family gathering I've ever attended.

1 roll of cookies (chocolate chip preferred)

1 bottle booze (dirt-cheap dry sherry preferred)

1 can of fruit (mandarin orange segments preferred)

Whipped cream from a can

Unwrap cookies and transfer to the serving dish still stacked together. Pour booze over them, filling the serving dish. Spoon the excess booze on top of the cookies until they are sodden: about 25 minutes total but you don't have to spoon very often. Chill between spoonings, in every sense of the word.

Drain any excess booze off and cover with whipped cream. Prettily arrange the mandarin segments or whatever around the outside. If there's time, chill before serving.
