we just returned from the green basil. it always seems fairly busy so we thought lets give another Beach restaurant a try. The beach, not known for its dining quality and quantity once again disappointed. We ordered thai cold spring rolls, chewy and stale and mostly just full of noodles.
My other half ordered the thai curry soup with chicken which was creamy and thick with egg noodles. terrible. I ordered spicy basil noodle with veg and tofu. AWFUL. the noodles were stuck together in a big clump on the plate. the tofu must have been cooked hours (hopefully not days) before and the noodles were so greasy I couldn"t pick them up from the plate. when the waiter arrived to take our plates/bowl which were still mostly full. I did explain i couldn't eat the noodles because of the oil and grease. i don't mind greasy food every so often but wouldnt expect it in thai food. he said yes they are very oily because the noodles are pre cooked and packaged and the only way they can loosen them enough to heat and serve is to basically cover in grease. what a disappointment right across the board.
i am not a chef of any sort, but can cook thai and vietnamese dishes quite well, as can most people i know. which is why i find it inexcusable for a restaurant claiming to be Pan Asian to serve such disastrous food, when its actually so easy to do, and do well.
another Beach restaurant to add to the list of places to never re-visit.
