Elmo on 7th AVe.

I had one of the most unbelievably bad dining experiences at Elmo today. I wanted to go to Le Zie but the lunch special didn't look like it was worth sitting in a depressingly empty restaurant with an out of town friend looking for a bit of a NYC scene. So Elmo it is.
To keep it brief they were out of almost every ingredient we ordered from the toast to turkey burgers to beer. This was at 12:30 in a half full restaurant. The waitress dodged us for an hour before bringing us any food. Finally I went into the kitchen to hunt down the hostess who had also disappeared. The waitress was unprofessional enough to say she had been avoiding us because she was embarassed she didn't have our food.

The hostess handled it all nicely and comped the whole meal but the food was all horribly average and overpriced. My 14 dollar lamb brochettes (over a "Greek" salad that was about as Greek as an Eggroll) were skimpy and quite ordinary. It seems like this is yet another Chelsea restaurant that is all about the scene without any substance. It seems obvious in hindsight that I should have gone elsewhere but I was stricken with that Chowhound Paralysis Syndrome when it came time to pick a place.
