So Eli Zabar, who lives very nearby, has taken on the lease for the old Jackson Hole/Soup Stop on Madison and 91st and is turning it into another in his growing list of Eli's Express - type places, with a wine bar. Jackson Hole and the building ownership had apparently run into a dispute about who was responsible or how to repair the structural damage (I think between the restaurant and the basement below it), and after a very long time of signage announcing their return the place went dark and then Eli started rehabbing it. There were sheds up covering the windows for a long time, but they have recently come down. There is still brown paper blocking one from seeing anything other than the (very nicely restored/rehabbed) metal ceiling, but that's not what I'm curious about.
All the windows have Eli's text logo except for the big one in the center, which has retained the Jackson Hole ground glass very large logo of a cowboy on a bronc, complete with the circled-r trademark registration bug.
Anyone have any idea what that's about? Has Eli gone into a joint venture with the Jackson Hole clan?
