Elena vs Shiraz in Glendale

Reality Check | May 27, 2006 03:30 AM

Well last week before the Dodger game (Was that a Sweeeping sound I just heard?) five of us wanted to try Elena after some reviews on Chowhound. The guy who lives in Glendale mentioned he passed by Shiraz and wanted to try that too. So we decide to order take out from both places to compare.

From Shiraz we ordered the Soltani combo with Chelo Kabob, filet mignon or so it says and Looleh Kabob, ground beef with spices, and Barg chicken kabob, chicken breast. Both came with huge amounts of basmati rice.

From Elena's we order the 1/2 shish and 1/2 lulu kabob (basically the same as the Soltani combo) and Chicken shish kabob. Both also came with basmati rice.

While Shiraz cost about $5 per item more than Elena's, I think it was well worth the price. Shiraz has more meat and better quality meat. The chicken was spiced just right and was moist.

Elena's had smaller portions and was of very average quality. The chicken was on the dry side and lulu was pretty flavorless.
