My husband and I are trying to trade off taking our 6-year-old daughter for various one-on-one cultural experiences, with lunch beforehand. The food is as important as the show!
For example, today they're going to Absinthe for lunch followed by a kids' matinee at the SF Symphony.
Searching the boards and OpenTable, I came up with either Cafe Rouge or Bistro Liaison, but I don't know much about Berkeley dining. I'm considering Chez Panisse Cafe too, but it's a little rich for my blood this tax season, and my two experiences there haven't been exactly mind-altering.
Can anyone recommend an elegant Berkeley place with entrees under $20 where we can lunch before a hula performance at Zellerbach Hall next Saturday? French or Italian or some other "continental" cuisine would be good, as we usually eat great quantities of Chinese, Vietnamese, and other Asian cuisines. Atmosphere to impress a worldly kindergartener is a plus.
