I love carolina style pork as much as any BBQ and Elaine's Pork and Pie comes close (whether intentionally or not) on many counts. This is a lovely addition to the East Side Cafe and good use of the little house next door to the main restaurant. Elaine the owner apparently knows her way around roasting pigs and serves up very nicely seasoned and succulent and moist pulled pork sammies with cole slaw and thin sliced house pickles and red onion. In keeping with my low carb lifestyle they gladly served mine sans bread in a bowl topped the pork with some peppery / vinegary sauce and I felt like I was back home in North Carolina for a few minutes. Not quite pure NC style, but close, and delicious. This pulled pork is more flavorful than other versions in town, is dry rub marinated for one day and slowcooked (thanks) in an oven for 12 hrs the next. For 7 bucks it's a really good lunch. They have delectable sweets. The carrot cake is the best I've ever had, and my wife who is a fiend for carrot cake agreed. Notice in the picture the icing looks so thick and maybe over the top - but no, it's actually uncannily light tasting somehow but at the same time cream cheesey. Surely its in the whipping but it's very well balanced with the cake. They also serve a daily vegetarian lentil soup, and are about to expand their menu a tad to a soup du jour, a quiche, etc. The ladies that run that show are delightful too. I went by myself today and felt like I was hanging with old friends.
Patronize this place 'hounds. It's worth your effort. Pardon the carrot cake pic with bites taken.
