On sunday trying to get to my deferred penguin treat, my wide had one condition, that we get her some masa tastiness beforehand. I think she was still tasting the sopes/picaditas that we had had the day before at the mother location of the maroon van sope vendor. We intially were going to go taqueria el gallo for the very good potato/cactus gorditas that Annieb has mentioned a while back, however they were closed on sunday evening so we ended up at el rincon
This spot, across from the terminus of the brown line, usued to be known as los mogotes de michoacan II, though much of the signage remains the same, it has changed ownership and the food I think has improved.
A couple of things really stood out, their picaditas I think were even better than those of the maroon van, though without potatos or pumpkin seeds, the fresh off the griddle rounds were just very toothsome. the other thing was the quesadilla, the largest quesadilla I have ever seen. just ginormous.
Not only was it huge, the folded over wrapper was unlike the crispy thin delicate ones at dona lolis or even the more substantial one at los mogotes, this was the thickness of a huarache and very tasty, though if i was to order it again, I 'd probably ask for it without the lettuce, tomato, cheese that accompanied my chorizo/potato
the huarache con rajas was also very large and in addition to rajas/queso had grilled onion on there as well
oh yeah, the Ice cream at the penguin - proved once again it's at a level far above pretty much everything else in the city
