I hadn't been to El Cholo since I moved here in the early nineties - I recall liking the fajitas and drinks.
Invited last night to Santa Monica branch - passed many times in car, never been.
Wow, is this place packed. Had to wait about 20 minutes for a table, which I was told was short.
Same menu as Western location.
Meal started ominously - chips tasted like they were fried in rancid/old oil. Salsas were uninspiring.
Host ordered guacamole - it tasted like it came from TJ's. One bite was all I could manage.
I ordered blue corn chiken enchiladas. Blech! What appeared to be stringy, boiled white meat chicken enclosed in tough, flavorless blue corn tortillas. Smothered in a slightly bitter, flavorless tomatillo sauce.
Even the sides - rice and beans - were bad.
Margarita was overly sweet.
At least the Pacifico was nice and cold :^)
BTW, the fajitas and combo plate that my fellow diners ordered looked equally dismal.
