Egg White Egg Tarts at Yummy Bakery and Cafe in Chinatown

Yummy Bakery and Cafe has only been open a few weeks but it seems they've made quite a splash, particularly with their egg white egg tarts. I've only seen egg white egg tarts in Manhattan Chinatown, though they have apparently been a staple in Hong Kong for a number of years. They're definitely very tasty, perhaps not quite as good as regular egg tarts, but considering the lack of egg yolks it's more than a fair trade off. (However, the crust is so crisp and flaky that I'm afraid to ask what it's made of.) They also have a number of other very interesting bakery items, particularly the Mexico Bun, which is in the shape of a large baked bao but has a crust like you see on Mexican sweet bread. This is something I've seen in Hong Kong, but not in the Bay Area. If there are other sightings of egg white egg tarts or Mexico buns in the Bay area I'd appreciate hearing about it. Yummy Bakery & Cafe also has a variety of non-Chinese baked goods. It's located at 607 Jackson St., next to the still closed Star Lunch location.
