Reading about the egg custard tarts (dan tat) from the Golden Gate Bakery on the SF board made me think about posting this here, in case any of you are searching for these delights. We've consistently been picking them up at the Sam Woo in Irvine (Walnut/Jeffrey location) on weekends for several months now and they are far and away the best I've *ever* eaten. The filing is smooth, slightly quivering and has just the right amount of sweetness. The crust is very flaky, not overly greasy at all, and crumbles at you eat it. Perhaps a lot of the success comes from the fact that they are fresh out of the oven during dim sum hours. Perfection.
