After scrolling through the whole list of Chowhounds
in Canada, you'd think we don't have any chowhounds here in Edmonton. Not true! I don't know why there are not more postings. Edmonton is not just steak and potato and Ukrainian food. Anyways, there is plenty to eat here as long as you eat Asian.
Wasabi Sushi on the southside at Lendrum Mall is most wonderful. Fresh and good service. There are no reservations and it fills up quickly, so go early.
Pagolac's in Chinatown has very nice Vietnamese soups, same thing- fills up quickly, go early.
Borneo Restaurant also in Chinatown has some flavorful Malay curry.
Sam Wok's off Whyte Ave is good for Chinese diner type foods-noodles,congee, rice plates and hot pots. Very good in price and taste.
Vietnamese sub shops and Chinese bakeries are scattered throughout Chinatown. Plenty of variety at very good prices.
As for bubble tea, there's the Tea Cottage. Yep, it's also in Chinatown.
I have to admit I'm a poor University Chinese student, so all my recommendations are geared towards the cheap side. I find that most good cheap food happens to be Asian, with the exception of Sushi. Being Chinese, well, I'm just biased towards Asian foods. Most of the places I have listed are mom-pop-and-rest-of-the family joints, so you're supporting local businesses, a good thing if I may add.
So if you're in Edmonton on a budget, eat Asian in Chinatown.
