I had a great first experience at this lovely new place on Rowena near the Coffee Table in Silverlake. We did not have reservations, which I did not think would be a problem on such a rainy night. Wrong. It was still packed, very impressive given the weather. Rather than wait 30 minutes for the dining room (which looked comfortable and warm) we chose to dine at the bar. First, the bar is simply amazing. Long and glorious, with high ceilings pressed with tin, it is a romantic, classic room. The bartender was excellent : even though the bar was also packed, he spent a lot of time with discussing the menu with us, as it was our first time. He also made a hell of a martini. We could not get the Caesar for two, which is done tableside only in the main dining room, so we each had the Mixed Salad, a fun and tasty update of the 50's Green Goddess salad, with lots of green peas and an excellent dressing. My friend loved his salmon, my flat iron steak was very flavorful and cooked perfectly. My only complaint were the accompanying mashed potatoes, which were a little dry. (Why can't restaurants in LA use tons of cream and butter in mashed potatoes? What else were mashed potatoes invented for?) The glazed carrots, however, were divine. All in all, it was a terrific evening. I read a few negative posts below. Perhaps they have had time to work out the glitches in the kitchen. I, for one, will go back often.
