I went to the BCM today after a long absence of many years. After a disappointing lunch at City Bakery (I don't eat wheat, so the best stuff there is wasted on me), I tried to salvage my lunch with some chocolates at Edelweiss. We tried an assortment of chocolates, and every single one of them was a bust. The nougat was stale, the butter creams had disturbingly hard shell exteriors, none of the chocolate had a good mouth-feel, and all were way too sugary to be savoured. And to add insult to injury, it was pretty damn expensive. I just can't understand how such a boutique chocolate store can get away with selling candy just for the sugar rush and not for the taste.
I'm not very adventerous in trying new chocolates, and today's visit reinforced that I should stick with my two favorites: Picholine and Sees.
Am I totally off base? It seems that Edelweis has another outpost in Beverly Hills, but I can't believe people would choose it over Godiva-Sees-Leonidas-Teuscher etc.
