Hitting a few old favorites (only new places in this post are Maykadeh and the Chinese dessert place).
Enjoyed the fesenjoon (chicken in a sauce of ground walnuts and pomegranates) at Maykadeh (thanks Alexandra for recommending this place). I personally prefer the version brighter and slightly fruitier version at Alborz, but it really is a personal preference; there's no other reason to pick that over Maykadeh's intensely rich and earthier version that's slightly deeper with the spices.
There's Chinese dessert place across the street from Taiwan point on Irving in the Sunset with a grand opening sign. They make a competent version of ground sweet sesame soup; not as fragrant as some versions I've had, but still very satisfying, with all the hallmarks of being homemade.
The vinegary sauteed eel with noodle soup at Shanghai Restaurant is as chowable as I remember -- the vinegar punches all my buttons.
Had a wonderful meal at Chaz (see posting in a slightly earlier thread below)
Fairly good pandan wrapped vegetarian chicken at Hulu House on Kirkham and 12th Ave, excellent vegetarian char siew (roast pork) filled rice sheets too. They've expanded their menu and these two items are on the new list.
