We tried the Ocean House for the first time about a month ago and found it wonderful. Perhaps we were lucky, we only had a 10 minute wait. I grew up on the water in a fishing community and I'll vouch for the freshness of this fish. Portions were large (we didn't finish our entrees), the service was wonderful. If you bring your own wine and pay the $10 corkage fee it's a drop dead bargain given the quality of the food.
Haven't been to Umami for a while, I've always liked it and found some of the carping on this board a little petty. We started with the peking duck quesidillas which were fantastic. My wife had a piece of tuna that was very good. I tried the korean style short ribs...unfortunately, the sauce overpowered the dish. I've made this on the bbq at home and we've had it in korea town...this was not a good rendition of the dish. In the past, I have had lots of other dishes there that I've liked. In Manhattan, "Umamis" are pretty easy to find but Umami is definitely a keeper here in croton.
We had our anniversary dinner at Le Pavillion in Poughkeepsie. This is one of my favorite restaurants. Terrific French comfort food served in a relaxed setting. We shared foie gras and an onion tart as appetizers. The foie gras was just good but the onion tart was absolutely wonderful. My wife had rack of lamb and I had the ultimate winter comfort food, braised lamb shank. For dessert we had chocolate and grand marnier souffles...could they really still be $6 ? (I hope the Monsieur Guermont doesn't read that!)
There are some bargains on the wine list...though perhaps not so many as in years past. In all, a wonderful meal, I can't wait to go back.
Have a great holiday everyone!
