Eating in steamy Gainesville, Florida

Liana | Apr 7, 2005 06:05 PM

My husband and I are moving to Gainesville at the end of this month, from Hell's Kitchen in Manhattan, probably one of the best neighborhoods in the country for restaurant eating--from cheap ethnic places to more upscale joints. This is one of the few things we'll miss about New York City. What are the best places to eat in and around Gainesville? Barbecue, soul food, Cuban, Thai and all Southeast Asian, and Indian especially, but also just plain old pub grub recommendations would be most welcome. Also, can you tell me anything about where to buy produce and ingredients for cooking? Indian spice stores, Mexican and Latin American grocery stores, Chinese supermarkets, and cheese shops? I've never been to the city and I need some direction! Many thanks for your help.
