Who would have thought that at this time of year I would have trouble finding pumpkins? Well, I did and I wondered if anyone had suggestions. I wanted to make curried pumpkin soup from a recipe I got off of cooking.com. I'd made it in the past with butternut squash and it was delicious. This time I wanted to do it right and use real pumpkin instead. The recipe warns you not to use field pumpkins, but look for Spookie, Jack Be Little or Munchkin instead (eating pumpkins). I went to Mollie Stone's, Safeway, and an Asian produce market. No luck. Finally I called Whole Foods and they said they had one variety of eating pumpkin (Sugar Pie). Well, I made the soup and was pretty disappointed. I had to add some orange juice and sugar to perk it up. When I used the squash it required no additonal tweaking to make it yummy. So is the problem that I just don't like pumpkin or are there better pumpkins to make soup with? And where do I find them?
