Going to Amsteram this Spring (May 27 - June 3). Will spend 4 days in the city (staying in a house on Jan Luijkenstraa) and then a few daytrips, probably:
1: The Hague;
2: Schermerhorn, Edam, Marken;
3: Ultrecht, Apenheul
We would love to try as many local dishes as possible and eat well! We are adventurous eaters, but limited in that we do not eat pork or shellfish.
We hope to have herring, Poffertjes, patatje oorlog, Stamppot (without pork if possible), Stroopwafels, Bitterballen, Croquettes, Oliebollen, Ontbijtkoek, liquorice, snert (again, without pork), Rijstaffel, Tompouce.
So, where are the best?! We would certainly spend time getting to a worthwhile food find rather settling for the convenient tourist trip.
If I have missed anything that you can think of us unique to the Netherlands, please let me know. We will have kids with us (ages 3, 6, 8, and 11) so if there are must-do activities for kids (or eats) in Amsterdam or elsewhere, I'd love suggestions (also nice to have advice to supplement all the research I try to do).
