We are planing a September road trip Valencia - Tarragona - Girona, ending up in Fontjoncouse, France (where my favorite restaurant in the world is located - Auberge du Vieux Puits). Than Barcelona for La Mercer.
We need some recommendations regarding eating along the way.
1. Never had good paella. Before giving up on the dish, I decided to visit the "belly of the beast" - Levante in Benissano. Please recommend any decent places in Valencia and around for paella . Would be happy with some tapas places in Valencia as well. Any particular counters to eat at in Mercado Central? Is trip to Denia for Quique Dacosta worth it?
2. Will stay overnight near Tarragona. Any recommendations for place to eat in Tarragona and along the coast on MONDAY.
3. Girona - very scarce food-wise information about the town. All the Chow discussions seem to revolve around one (and you know which one) restaurant. Do not like fusion, so Nu is out. Anything else? As well anything interesting on the way from Tarragona to Girona, bypassing Barcelona. May be some interesting to visit Cava winery,,,?
4. Something in France after crossing the border? La Cote Vermeille in Port-Vendres or le 5ème péché or l'Amandin in Saint-Cyprien?
Thank you in advance. Promise trip report after-wise.
