I have lived (with the exception of 6 years) in the San Francisco Bay Area and have never EVER eaten a Dungeness crab (or any other out of the shell crab for that matter).
BF's B-day is coming up (Dec. 6) and I was thinking of steaming him a fresh crab for his birthday dinner and serve it with sourdough and a beer or nice wine. I will be in finals so I thought it would be quicker than making something more "grand" but would still feel very special.
So the problem is is that neither of us know how to eat these things. Can someone recommend a strategy, or a place to read about/see a strategy to attacking these critters? I am interested in the adventure and want to get the most out of the experience.
Also, any cooking instructions would be much appreciated as I have never cooked any type of shelled critter before.
Thank you for any and all information in advance!
