My mom put various canned fish in my stocking because she knows I love kippers and sardines. The trout is from Trader's, farm raised, in canola oil? Should I just put these on toast like I do with the other stuff or is there a more tasty way to enjoy theseV I find the canola oil a bit of a turn-off but not enough to avoid them...
How about a dip? Or spread this on toast instead of the celery it recommends. You don't have a whole trout, but I don't see why canned couldn't be used.
Yep, just like the other flat canned fishes in regard to what you'd like them to mingle with. But: I always drain the oil for personal preference.
i'd drain and pat off as much of that oil as possible, but love smoked trout over carrots and cukes with a sharp dijon vinaigrette. i eat sardines that way too.
you can put the trout on toast with a fried egg on top.
It's great in quiche.
I love that smoked trout from TJ's. I always have a couple cans on hand. We do a standard salad with smoked trout on top. I've made a delicious spread with it. Just mix with a tiny bit of mayo and whole grain mustard. It's good on a bagel as a spread or as chunks with cream cheese and tomatoes.
I just it straight out of can because it's so good. That said, I've put it over a green salad.
I ordered a salad in one of Yountville's top restaurants (Napa Valley). It consisted of greens, sweet onions, potatoes, trout with a light vinaigrette. I can't remember if the trout was smoked or not, but nevertheless, simple and excellent.
