I read through this thread:
Most recs are for Panama City and surrounding area...a few for Bocas. However since the thread is almost 4 years old, wondering if those places still exist or if anything new is worth checking out.
We'll be there for one week and are staying at a rental house in Bastimentos. Not sure of the layout/geography of the area yet, so no clue where that is in relation to the main town/places to go.
Is it still as cheap as everyone notes? How much would you expect to pay for a meal? Drinks? What is the standard for tipping in Panama? We would like to leave a good impression, of course.
I've also read that there are a lot of ex-pats there...did you find this to be true? We were in Costa Rica last year and met a few ex-pats, but felt we got a good indication of local flare, too. Kinda hoping for a similar experience...don't really want a too American-ized experience.
What can you say about these places (from the other thread) and what's "can't miss":
Lilly's Cafe, recommended for breakfast?
Late night chicken truck...is that still operating? I love street food!
Anyway, thanks for your help in advance.
