With the nicer weather, husband and I have been going for long walks just east of our Seabright nabe. I noticed three diner-cafes (to connote that these aren't frilly, pretty cafes, but more dingey greasy spoon cafes). All look like places where locals would converge. Does anyone have the scoop on these:
Harbor Cafe (on 7th)
Cliff Cafe (on 41st in Pleasure Pt. area)
Sunny Cove Cafe (on 17th across st. from Aloha Island)
Harbor Cafe piqued my interest the most, and even though I'm not a big diner person, I would be happy to find a place that does a good down-home burger, biscuits 'n gravy, or really good onion rings.
While I'm posting, let me mention a couple of places we've had a quick bite at recently. Black China Bakery on Soquel just west of Seabright. Located on back side of Ironwood home store. Nice cozy outdoor seating area that reminds me of LA, but the food was unremarkable. Very simple focused menu and I was hoping for something like Cafe Fanny in Berkeley, but alas, better just to get a coffee or chai (photo below...strong ginger kick!), maybe a baked good, and tuck into a good book or write a letter to a friend.
Aloha Island Grille at 17th and Portola. I had mahi mahi katsu and husband had kalbi ribs once again. Food was alright, but nothing to get excited about. Quality doesn't seem as good as when we first tried it over a yr. ago. Still need to try Maui Maui.
