We first went to Carmen's Kitchen in East Boston about a year ago, and the food was great. However, we tried it again last night, and I can only think that they must be under new ownership now. While I hate to diss a mom & pop type joint, I have to say: the service was sloooow and clearly inexperienced, the atmosphere too warm and smoky (prob. from the cigar shop next door?) and the food was truly abyismal. The sauce on the purple shrimp, (which was delectable the first time I had it a year ago), was starchy and gooey. The ceasar salad I had was small, WAY overpriced, and literally inedible. The rest of my party didn't fare much better with soggy flavorless alfredo and penne. After the dissappointing meal we unanimously decided to skip dessert. We only went to Carmens because Eastie's Rinos had a 35 minute wait. I guess theres a reason for that :). Next time we'll stick it out..
