I have lived in the Kingston area for over 10 years. There have been some good restaurants come and go. There has been one place open about 3 or 4 years ago which opened with a fantastic menu and has remained consistantly superb ever since.
Casa Bella in Gananoque. It is only a 20 minute drive down the highway, but it is far removed from the hum drum, boring eating establishments in Kingston.
The chef and co-owner "Stev George" came here via the Sooke Harbour House on Vancouver Island. He has taken that training and added his own vivid imagination to his ever changing menu. Excellent fois gras and other first courses from around the globe.
His tasting menus are very creative and the portions are more than generous. The wine list is small, but he has a great cross selection of wines from all regions and in all price ranges.
The food is to die for, the wine is more than adequate and the service is OK. It can be spotty at times and very informal at the best of times. But it is improving
every time we go there.
Our other choice in the region for consistantly good food and service is "Casa Dominica" on Brock St,in Kingston.
