The Easter Pizza Rustica and Ricotta Pie Report

On 10Apr06 lisa posted "Pizza Rustica Anyone?"

I mistook the name of the dish to indicate the usual flat pie topped with tomato condiment and cheese plus a plethora of other possible toppings. MEA CULPA!

I did not know that I've been enjoying Pizza Rustica for years at Easter because the South Philly people of Italian heritage are 'tutti Americani' and call that pizza by other names. Our daughter's mother-in-law calls it 'Easter ham pie.' She brought some to our house yesterday that was made by a 'comare' of hers. It had a crust top and bottom, and had chunks of ham imbedded in the ricotta. Last year I wished the South Philly Italians 'Buona Pasqua' and got blank stares.

Our daughter's m-i-l baked a sweet ricotta pie and brought along with the pizza rustica. It is one of my favorite ricotta desserts, and hers was molto delizioso.
