Dumpling House on Eldridge

Jonathan and Ros | Jun 14, 2002 10:39 AM

We've just searched the site and are surprised there aren't any entries on Dumpling House on Eldridge Street. Maybe we didn't look hard enough. Anyway, the place is fantastic. A little hole-in-the wall on Eldridge between Grand and Broome that serves the best dumplings for about a $1 to $2 per order. The pork and scallion dumblings (fried or boiled) are so tender and juicy. These aren't soup dumplings but something like the platonic ideal of what normal Cantonese dumplings should taste like. Vegetable dumplings are also wonderful. Their other specialty is a sesame pancake with beef. For $1.50 you get this triangular slice of bready, sesame covered pancake cut down the middle and filled with sliced beef, carrots, cilantro and a light sauce. Again, delicious.
