Dumb Question On Food Mills

Avalondaughter | Dec 28, 2009 11:09 AM

I got an OXO Good Grips food mill for Christmas. I have wanted one for a while so I can make homemade marinara sauce more easily (no more skinning and seeding the tomatoes) and also get more consistently mashed potatoes for gnocchi.

I put the thing together to try out how it worked. I gave the handle a crank.

The thing wouldn't turn easily. It took all of my strength.

The directions aren't very explicit, which led me to believe that as long as all of the bits that stuck out were properly stuck in all of their little notches (they were) that the thing would operate properly. I didn't think I had left any step out.

I was, of course, running the thing "dry". I was just testing how it went together and how it worked. I hadn't actually put any food in it.

Will this thing turn properly once I have food in it?
