Visited DC for a week; here are the highlights:
--Bistro du Coin for steak frites, cassoulet. Fun, loud, lively (a foosball table!) But the food at Les Halles is definitely better (esp. the cassoulet). Next time I'll try Bistro d'Oc.
--Dukem; what a gem! Terrific food, laidback neighborhood atmosphere. Had the regular tibs, a lamb wot, and a vegetarian combo; all were excellent. Although the a/c didn't seem to be working--it was cooler outside than inside.
--Heritage India (Dupont) was possibly the best meal of my trip. Samosas and golgapas to start, tandoori meats, a spinach/paneer/corn dish, a chicken/tomato curry, and keema naan rounded out the meal. I wish, I wish that I had an indian restaurant of this quality nearby! Some of the menu seemed a little odd--the pastas and some of the tapas weren't so appealing, but the more traditional dishes were expertly spiced. Nice service, too.
