Duck palm in mustard sauce

Last night I went to a Chinese restaurant and ordered a cold dish called "duck palm in mustard sauce." The mustard was overpowering. Each bite was, quite literally, painful. After about ten bites I could not bring myself to eat any more of it, and had to order another dinner (fortunately this is a cheap place).

I'm posting, not to complain about the restaurant (which I still like) but to inquire whether the version I had was authentic or just bad. If the former, I may have unwittingly spoiled things for future seekers of authenticity: the woman who took my order both times asked me what was wrong with the duck palm, and I told her.
