My wife and I have noticed an odd phenomenon, and are seeking advice/insight from those of you who might have worked in the food industry. Namely, on occassion when we get french fries at a restaurant (not fast food!) we both experience sleeplessness, as if caffeine had been added to the food. Whenever this happens to one of us, it happens to us both.
This has happened as the result of food from more than one restaurant, but it does not happen with every restaurant, and it never happens when we cook for ourselves at home.
Could this have something to do with the fat in which the food is fried? Is there a secret cabal of disgruntled kitchen-workers sprinking no-doz on the food of unsuspecting patrons? Any ideas?
