Please help if you can.
I'm a regular poster to the Florida board, and I'm trying to help my son, daughter-in-law and their 7-year-old plan dining details for a trip June 14-19 from Orlando to Williamsburg, side trip to Monticello, and return.
They will have a car and will be staying at Kingsmill in williamsburg.
I've cross posted a similar message to the Mid-Atlantic board, as that's where I found the most information about Williamsburg. However, I did find some information about Williamsburg on this board. Also they are also looking to find a few places enroute, particularly barbecue, and are willing to do some detouring to catch a good meal or two along the way.
They are open to some fine dining, but primarily they want more moderately-priced places with good value and quaint, interesting places not typical to our part of the world.
They love Asian of all sorts, seafood, Southern style food and just about anything else.
My grandaughter is a picky eater, so they make sure she has either a supply of the limited menu of what she eats in Mommy's purse, or from the menu. Then she's content, quiet, well behanved and beautiful.
To quickly summarize my Wiliamsburg research, which they have and which I believe to be somewhat dated, I suggested they spend some time in the Merchant's Square area, suggested stops to include (perhaps) the Trellis and The Fat Canary as well as the Cheese Shop for lighter fare.
Also suggested The Blue Talon, although their web site is not active and I suspect it may be closed.
Only barbecue I could find worth mention was called Pierce's Pitt Bar-B-Que, and while it looked very typical of southern 'cue, it's probably more out of the ordinary in your part of the world.
My other suggestions included The Kitchen at Powhatan Plantation, La Yaca, Milano's of Williamsburg and, for taverns. Christina Campbell's, Shield's Tavern, and The King's Arms.
I liked the sounds of the Second Ave (? street?) Tavern but had no luck with an address. Also, there was the Green Leafe Café, which sounded good.
I left out Berret's, the Surrey HOuse, The Black Angus Grille on Richmond Road, Captain George's Seafood Buffet and Brae Bistro for various and multiple reasons, but I am open to commnent and correction/addition.
I'd appreciate thoughts on any of these places to bring them up to speed as well as any others my brief check failed to bring to the surface.
As I mentioned, they are leaving Orlando Wednesday, June 14 -- so a quick post is more helpful than a late, detailed post -- or no post at all.
Thoughts on restaurants going and coming will be appreciated also.
PS -- I'll gladly return the favor for you Central Florida bound residents.
