driving on Xmas day from miami to key west. what will be open for stops along the way. need food and other interesting stops.
Tough call. I imagine most places will be closed, at least until the afternoon. Many of the usual favorites are still recovering from last year's hurricane. But plenty of photo worthy stops along the way.
Here are some of my favorites in the area:
TO DO
If you have never been, Southermost Point- ONLY before 9am or after 9pm. It's too touristy otherwise.
Mallory Square at sunset. Also touristy, but worth it at least once. When in Rome...
BREAKFAST
Ana's Cuban Cafe, Cuban Coffee Queen, Banana Cafe, or Croissants de France
LUNCH
B.O.'s Fish Wagon (looks like a dump outside, but trust it's worth it!) or Hogfish Bar & Grill
DINNER
Latitudes (must reserve now) on Sunset Key, Santiago's Bodega, Firefly, Nine One Five, Seven Fish, Better than Sex (for dessert)
DRINKS
Vino's on Duval
The Other Side (craft cocktails)
Here's where I would stop along the way (but you need to verify they are open Christmas Day):
Lunch in Key Largo: The Conch House
Lunch in Islamorada: Bad Boy Burrito, Overseas Kitchen, or Bayside Gourmet
Lunch in Marathon: Lighthouse Grill, Sparky's, or Lazy Days
Stops in Key Largo: John Pennecamp State Park (glass bottom boat tour)
Stops in Islamorada: Windley Key State Park (cool coral) & Robbie's Marina (feed the tarpon)
Stops in Marathon: Dolphin Research Center & Aquarium Encounters
Stops in Big Pine: Blue Hole
