Why now does drinking beer in the afternoon make me SO TIRED?

I'm a female in my late 40's, and I've been consuming beer - moderately to seldom - for most of my adult life. In the past 10 years, I've become a BIG fan of hoppy, citrusy IPA's (mostly craft beers with higher ABV). I've had no problem downing a few of these types of beers for several years now, even while outdoors on sunny days in the hot summer heat - almost always only on the weekends or during vacation periods, and remaining alert and productive.

HOWEVER, for the past 2 years or so.... I now get SO TIRED and sleepy/sluggish after doing this, that I'm now considering completely stopping this occasional weekend practice because I become totally useless and an unproductive slug after I start getting even a slight buzz..... and all I feel like doing is napping! I've NEVER napped during the middle of the day, and I'm normally a relatively productive person on the weekends. I'd hate to give up my weekend treats of imbibing!

Anyone else experience this type of change? I know I'm aging now, but I'm not THAT old to feel like I need to nap after having just a couple of brews!
