I bought a pound of dried strawberries online and got a pound of very tasty berries--but they are plump and full of sugar and red (red dye #40). Practically gumdrops. I find apples and apricots that aren't candied, but dried -- is it just not possible to do that with strawberries ? Too much water, maybe? (I don't think you could dry watermelon.)
I want to make some fruit/nut bar cookies with strawberries and almonds. Should I avoid--or use-- cinnamon, nutmeg, mace, lemon zest ? I guess I'm asking 'what goes with strawberry?' These bars will not have chocolate.
