Dried red chilies -- Italian, Asian, Mexican chile de arbol -- all about the same?

Hi, I've noticed how similar all these chilies are. Aren't they interchangeable? I'm talking about the long dark-red skinny ones, 2-3 inches long. Seems so to me. I throw them whole into the wok, or chop them fine for a pasta sauce or on pizza (like Italian crushed red peppers), or use them in Mexican dishes.
