Dreaming of the Marquise de Sevigny

The new Orchid Bakery is like the fancy French tea room - exquisite cakes (I sampled two) together with unbelievably delicious sandwiches fresh made on rosemary bread piled high with razor thin roast beef, whole grain mustard, lettuce, red onion, mayo and cornichons, not necessarily in that order - plus a big salad of designer greens - cute little tables either in or outside, we sat in the A/C gazing at the gelato array and my partner sat and sat while I was over at Nobuuuuu getting a haircut. Its really like Paris, sit as long as you like and get spoiled with all the good food and a huge list of teas and coffees including Turkish coffee. Open very late at night too. Cakes were like photos out of a cake book - pretty good size strawberry cake $13.95. Sandwiches with salad, $5.95. - getting one to eat on the plane tomorrow to save us from the packets of pretzels.
Baguettes not bad either - not as good as the French Bakery on Pico (the owners are very welcoming, Persian/Armenian/American.
